COTABATO CITY, Oct. 6 (PNA) – Education Secretary Armin Luistro will lead the launching of World Hand Washing Day in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) on October 15.
Jamar Kulayan, regional secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd-ARMM), said proper hand washing is very important for the school children to save them from communicable diseases.
He said educating children on proper hand washing will have multiplying effect on the children’s family and friends.
The hand washing day comes when teachers celebrate World Teachers Month.
It will be spearheaded by education officials and public health nurses assigned in public schools in the ARMM which is composed of the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
Kulayan said the DepEd chief will also visit a public school in Barangay Sarmiento, Parang, Maguindanao.
DepEd-ARMM has more than 400 public health nurses assigned in public schools, mostly to promote health care.
DoH-ARMM has about half of this number mostly deployed in public hospitals and they are expected to implement more than 20 health programs.
Early this year, a school health partner of DepEd-ARMM made a study showing possible areas on convergence. (PNA)
