ZAMBOANGA CITY, Oct. 4 (PNA) — Some 12,500 propagules were planted Saturday in a mangrove planting activity in this city.
The activity, dubbed as Media Ambiente Para na Jovenes (Environment for the Young Generation), was held at the five-hectare area of the Zamboanga State Colleges of Marines Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) in Barangay Rio Hondo.
The activity was initiated by the private sector and fully supported by the local government.
Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) Board of Director Edwin Calilio, the over-all project coordinator, said 10 agencies and institutions have joined the mangrove planting activity.
The propagules were sourced out by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Calilio said the activity is envisioned to help ensure a healthy environment for the future generation.
He said activity was highlighted by the signing of the pledge of commitment by the participating agencies spearheaded by Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.
