MANILA, Oct. 3 (PNA) — A magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted Antique province and nearby areas Friday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs).
In its bulletin, the agency said the tremor occurred at 4:05 p.m. with its epicenter traced at five kilometers southeast of Culasi in Antique.
Phivolcs said that Culasi town felt the tremor at Intensity 6.
The towns of Kalibo, Aklan; Sebaste,Pandan, Lauan and Libertad in Antique also felt the quake at Intensity 5.
Intensity 4, on the other hand, was recorded in San Jose, Sibalom and San Remegio also in Antique while Intensity 3 felt at La Carlota City; Roxas City; Ilo-ilo City.
Intensity 2 was monitored in Cebu City, while Zambonga City felt the tremor at Intensity 1.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 14 kilometers.
Phivolcs described an Intensity 6 as very strong where some people may lose their balance.
Heavy objects or furniture may move or may be shifted while old or poorly built houses and man-made structures may be slightly damaged.
Limited rockfalls and rolling boulders may also occur in hilly to mountainous areas and escarpments while trees are noticeably shaken.
The agency, however, said there was no damage reported from the quake as of this time. (PNA)
