MANILA, Oct 2 (PNA) — Malacanang said on Thursday President Benigno S. Aquino III is not surprised with the results of a Pulse Asia survey showing that 62 percent of the respondents are against the amendment of the Constitution which, in turn, may allow the Chief Executive to run for a second term.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio B. Coloma Jr. said in a press briefing the President continues to get the pulse of the Filipinos in a bid to strengthen the reforms he has instituted.
He explained that through public opinion surveys, the government is able to get the citizens’ take on the government’s performance.
”The President values the support and trust of the people — from the start of his term until now — and his determination to make the reforms permanent remains,” he said.
According to the Sept. 8-15, 2014 Pulse Asia survey, 62 percent of the Filipino people say there in no need to amend the 1987 Constitution at the present time.
Coloma said the President will continue to get the public’s views since this is an important factor in his good governance program.
”This is a continuing process that the President has committed to undertake as part of his stewardship as the Chief Executive of the land,” he stressed.
The PCOO secretary said the President wants to know the ideas and feelings of the people so that the government can address any issues, especially those on good governance and the move to put in reforms.
”That’s the context of all the things we do. To implement reforms and make sure that these reforms will be permanent and not just for a short period,” he added. (PNA)
