MANILA, September 19 (PNA) — Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle urged the faithful to start taking care of the environment by segregating and recycling.
The head of the Archdiocese of Manila wassupposed to lead the “Walk for Climate” activity on Friday, September 19, but was canceled due to the inclement weather brought about by Tropical Storm Mario.
“I think the walk has been canceled since many roads are reportedly flooded. We are also expecting students to join us but classes has been called off. But we can do this any day,” he said.
However, the mass which was held at the Manila Cathedral before the walking event pushed through.
Tagle is convinced that if every barangay has material recovery facility, it would make families to segregate and recycle.
“If there is such facility, it would encourage families to segregate and also to recycle. They can also earn from it by selling things that can be recycled for the benefit of the barangay projects,” he said in an interview.
Tagle also asked the people to be vigilant in looking after the projects in their localities to make sure that it would not destroy the environment and the people will truly benefit from it.
The walk should have started at the Sta. Cruz Church and will proceed to other churches in the city, in a relay manner: St. Vincent de Paul in San Marcelino, San Fernando de Dilao in Paco, St. Joseph the Worker in Palanan, Santa Clara de Montefalco in Pasay. It will end at the Baclaran Church.
The activity highlights the “Season of Creation” campaign in the Ecclesiastical Province of Manila composed of an archdiocese and 11 suffragan dioceses from September 1 to October 4. (PNA)
