MANILA, Sept. 19 (PNA) — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), in its 3 p.m. update on Friday, said at least 104,339 families equivalent to 470,323 persons in four regions were affected by the floods and heavy rains spawned by tropical storm “Mario.”
Alexander Pama, NDRRMC executive director, said the affected families were from Regions I (Ilocos), IV-A (Calabarzon), IV-B (Mimaropa) and the National Capital Region (NCR).
In these areas, at least 105 localities suffered flooding, Pama said.
In the NCR alone, heavy flooding was reported in Marikina City, Quezon City and Manila and parts of the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Valenzuela, Navotas, Pasig and Makati.
The NDRRMC chief attributed the flooding to the southwest monsoon rains enhanced by tropical storm “Mario.”
Pama also said that they are now monitoring areas near Ipo and Binga dams as these facilities have released some of their stored water.
In Central Luzon, which is also experiencing heavy rains, relief goods and worker have already been pre-positioned for possible contingencies, the NDRRMC said. (PNA)
