Ambuklao Dam opens gate

Posted on September 19, 2014

MANILA, Sept 19 (PNA) — Benguet’s Ambuklao Dam has opened a gate at 0.5 meters, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA’s) 5 p.m. update.

In a table on its twitter account Friday, PAGASA said that one gate has been opened, releasing on a level of 0.5 meters.

As of 5 p.m., the Ambuklao Dam is on a level of 750.47 meters. It has gradually decreased from the 11 a.m. update of 750.52 meters. It is nearing its flood high water level of 752 meters.

Moreover, Ipo Dam’s two gates are still open and is currently at a level of 101.66 meters. The Bulacan based dam has been lowered from the 11 a.m. update of 101.68 meters, reaching its high water level of 101 meters.

Flooding is still expected in the areas due to the release of water due to the gate openings.

Likewise, the La Mesa Dam, based in Quezon City, is on an overflow level, currently holding 80.44 meters of water. It has surpassed its high water level of 80.15 meters.

However, it has no gates and only allows the water to spill and flow into the Tullahan River. Consequently, the nearby areas are expected to be flooded such as Fairview, Malabon, Valenzuela and Caloocan.

Benguet’s Binga Dam has already opened two gates, releasing at a height of 2 meters. It has a water level of 573.25 meters, still far from its high water level of 575 meters.

On the other hand, Pangasinan’s San Roque Dam was noted to have 268.31 meters, having increased from the 11 a.m. update of 267.87 meters.

Also, the Pantabangan Dam is still basing on the 8 a.m. update of 192.81 meters, yet is still far from the high water level of 216 meters.

Magat is rapidly approaching its high water level mark of 190 meters, but is currently at 189.8 meters.

For Laguna’s Caliraya Dam, the water level is still at a level of 286.6 meters, similar to the 11 a.m. update.

Meanwhile, PAGASA has lowered the red rainfall alert to orange in the areas of Bulacan, Metro Manila and Pampanga.

Also having a lowered rainfall alert is Laguna, from red to yellow.

Thus, the amount of rains are expected to be lower than early Friday’s estimates.

But, it will still contribute some water level to the dams. (PNA)
