MANILA, Sept. 17 (PNA) — Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago said on Wednesday that with a little help from “wonder pill,” she now feels more relax, hoping she would recover from her lung cancer within the year.
“With the new wonder pill, I hope to attain full recovery by the end of this year,” Santiago told reporters in a press conference after presiding at a subcommittee hearing of the Commission on Appointments.
She said that there are some people doubting of her claim that she is sick because she is already sporadically reporting to her mandate as lawmaker.
To erase doubts, the veteran lawmaker showed the bandages in her toes while sporting a pair of sandals which she claims is not appropriate for a senator to report for work with sloppy attire as she claims people with cancer are prone to bleeding.
“You think I will report to office like this? You think these are necessary accessories for beauty? For sex appeal? When you got cancer, your immunities are taken away from you and you become vulnerable,” she stressed.
“Some people doubt that I have cancer at all. You think it’s a pigment of my imagination? I wish,” she added.
Last week, the senator described the “wonder pill” she is taking as “chemotherapy that has been reduced to a tablet.”
In an earlier interview in the middle of this year, Santiago said she was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Later, she claimed that she is 80 percent cured and hoping to overcome this within the year with the help of “wonder pill.”
Santiago is not attending regular Senate sessions except attending to her committee hearings.
She vowed to attend regularly when Congress resumes session on Oct. 20 after a three-week recess from Sept. 27. (PNA)
