MANILA, Sept. 7(PNA) — The trough or extended cloudiness of the low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will continue to bring heavy rains over the whole of Mindanao, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.
In its advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that as of 10 a.m. Sunday, the LPA was estimated based on all available data at 1,250 kilometers east of Mindanao (8.4˚N, 138.5˚E).
PAGASA said the trough of this weather system will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms in Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides while Palawan and Mindoro will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
“Residents in these areas and the local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to be alert and take all the necessary precautionary measures and monitor updates on this weather disturbance,” it added.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms.
PAGASA weather forecaster Alvin Pura said the LPA has slim chance to intensify into a tropical depression but the agency continues to monitor it.
In case it develops into a tropical depression inside the country, it will be named “Luis,” Pura said.
PAGASA expects two to three cyclones to visit the country this September. (PNA)
