(Update) 2 LPAs have slim chance to intensify into tropical depression — PAGASA

Posted on September 3, 2014

MANILA, Sept. 3 (PNA) — Two weather disturbances inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) have small chance of intensifying into tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 36 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Gladys Saludes said that as of 4:00 a.m., the LPA was spotted some 200 km east of Baler, Aurora (15.5ºN, 125.0ºE) while, another LPA was estimated based on all available data at 800 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar (11.4ºN 133.5ºE).

Based on the numerical models, Saludes said the two weather disturbances have slim chances of becoming tropical depressions.

Once the LPA intensifies into a tropical depression inside the country, it will be locally named “Karding”.

PAGASA expects two to three cyclones to visit the country this September.

Saludes said the LPA in Aurora will continue to bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Calabrazon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol Region and Visayas and the provinces of Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino until Thursday.

She said the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Meanwhile, Saludes said the other LPA is still far and does not affect the country.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the southwest over Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

It added no gale warning was issued as sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft.(PNA)
