LUCENA CITY, Quezon Aug 30 (PNA) – More than 13,000 public schools teachers gathered Thursday and Friday at the Quezon Convention Center in this city for the annual two-day get-together organized by the Quezon provincial government and DepEd-Quezon.
Governor David “Jay-Jay” Suarez described to the teachers the devastation brought by typhoon “Glenda” to the whole province, particularly to schools, and the actions taken by the government regarding this concern.
He related that numerous school buildings and covered courts were damaged by the storm, thus the formation of Provincial Development Council and the allocation of P50 million as repair fund for the damaged schools.
The governor thanked Education Secretary Armin Luistro for the latter’s pledge of assistance to the province’ rehabilitation program.
Gov. Suarez assured the teachers the province will build typhoon-resistant school buildings to provide them the peace of mind and confidence that they will be safe even on the onset of strong typhoons.
He also reported to the teachers that his administration is addressing the lack of classrooms. In a span of four years, the province constructed 203 classrooms and 93 computer laboratories to sustain Quezon’s computer literacy campaign.
Meanwhile, Angel Lavarro, a teacher from Quezon National High School expressed gratitude for the convention, saying they had an informative and entertaining get-together, thanks to Gov. Suarez. The governor brought in stand-up comedians from Metro Manila as ice-breakers to the delight of the teachers and guests.
“It’s my first time to attend this convention and I must say that I really enjoyed it. Thank you very much Governor Suarez for this momentous event for us teachers, thank you for this day which made us teachers happier,” said Lavarro in her message on the Facebook Page of the Quezon Provincial Information Office.
