TACLOBAN CITY, Aug. 29 (PNA) — The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in this city got an initial budget of PHP 6 million in the provision of livelihood for city residents whose small businesses were destroyed by last year’s typhoon.
The project, under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEET), provides equipment needed for business to beneficiaries.
Norman Uyvico, assistant PESO manager, said that the livelihood program aims to provide livelihood to affected small enterprises in Tacloban
“PESO which is under the office of the city mayor, aims to provide 100 percent employment to all the locals. That’s why we provide livelihood opportunities for them,” Uyvico told PNA.
He added that this livelihood program is a response from the local government to the needs of affected small businesses.
Alpha Cinco, 32, one of the PESO applicants felt lucky to attend the orientation. She’s a single mother of two and has no work to provide for the needs of her children.
“I am thankful to attend this orientation and I hope they will provide the kind of assistance I need,” she told PNA.
Cinco plans to set up a beauty salon to apply the knowledge and experience she gained during her employment in a popular local beauty salon.
PESO, which functions as a counterpart of DOLE, functions as a labor market formation, which encourages job seekers to register at the office of PESO for them to help find employment. (PNA)
