MANILA, Aug. 29 (PNA) – The low-pressure area (LPA) off Palawan will continue to dump rains over Luzon and the Visayas in the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said on Friday.
In an interview, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Fernando Cada said that as of 4 p.m., the LPA was spotted some 140 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City (11.0ºN 118.9ºE).
Cada said the weather disturbance still has a slim chance to become a tropical depression, adding that it is expected to exit the country’s landmass via Palawan Saturday or Sunday.
“Once the LPA exits the country, we can expect gradual weather improvement in the Visayas as well as in parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila,” he said.
Cada noted that due to the cloud circulation of the LPA, most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Western Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms until Saturday.
He said the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Meanwhile, Cada said it is likely that the country will continue to be storm-free for the rest of the month.
“Malaki ang posibilidad na wala nang bagyo na tatama sa ating bansa ngayong buwan (There is high chance that no more tropical cyclone will develop until the end of the month),” he said.
However, Cada said PAGASA expects three to four cyclones to visit the country in September.
The next tropical cyclone that will enter the country will be named “Kanor.”
In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao and from the south to southeast over the rest of Luzon.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
PAGASA also has not issued a gale warning as the sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft. (PNA)
