Montano named Western Union ambassador

Posted on April 28, 2009

PHILIPPINE NEWS SERVICE — The Western Union Company, a global leader in money transfer services, recently announced that film and TV celebrity Cesar Montano will be its main endorser for the Philippines.

“We are delighted that Cesar Montano will be an ambassador for Western Union. His achievements not only in the entertainment business but in civic endeavors reflect Western Union’s passion and integrity,” Patricia Riingen, Western Union’s senior vice president, Pacific and Indochina, said.

Montano is an award-winning TV host, film actor, director and producer whose experience on the silver screen spans as far as Hollywood.

The host of the popular weekend TV game show The Singing Bee, Montano has been a longtime Western Union customer.

“I have always used Western Union when sending money to loved ones in the provinces or anywhere else,” Montano said. “Western Union gives me peace of mind because it is so reliable and fast. Para kampante ka, i-Western Union mo.”

“With so many Filipinos working away from home, both abroad and in the country’s cities and towns, transferring money is very important. Taking care of our families and friends is part of our culture,” Montano said. “When Western Union asked me to be their spokesman, I agreed enthusiastically because I use their service and have always been impressed with its reliability, mula pa noong araw.”

In his latest TV commercial, Montano is seen sending money in minutes via Western Union to a friend in the province whose wife has just given birth. Montano says the concept was based on a real-life experience.

The Boholano thespian started his career on stage and then moved on to the movies where he starred, directed, and produced blockbuster hits. He is best remembered for his role as national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal in the movie Jose Rizal and for his critically acclaimed film Panaghoy sa Suba.

He has won acting awards for his portrayal of off-beat heroes and accolades for directing Panaghoy sa Suba, the story of a love triangle set in Bohol during World War II. The movie’s themes include nationalism and colonial mentality.

Montano is also active in civic programs. He is chairman and president of the Panaghoy Children’s Foundation and a UNESCO Commissioner for Arts and Culture.

Western Union, a leader in global money transfer services, provides consumers with fast, reliable and convenient ways to send and receive money around the world and within the Philippines.

Western Union has over 6,300 agent locations throughout the Philippines and over 334,000 in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
