Tacloban City’s executive and legislative offices complement efforts to help Yolanda survivors

Posted on August 26, 2014

TACLOBAN CITY, Aug. 26 (PNA) — The executive and legislative branches of the city government here are one in ensuring that their constituents affected by super typhoon Yolanda are being taken care of.

Vice Mayor Jerry Yaokasin said that while the executive branch directed its efforts in looking for ways to provide decent homes to displaced families, his office is focused on securing livelihood opportunities for workers and laborers affected by the typhoon.

“We feel that the best way to complement is to focus on livelihood. Providing solution to shelter needs is a big problem, it has a lot of complication and issues,” said Yaokasin.

He said that his office becomes instrumental in linking with donors by partnering with several organizations and foundation.

“It is them that chose who will receive the projects. My contribution is to show them around the city and areas were people’s livelihood are affected by the typhoon,” said Yaokasin.

Just recently, Yaokasin turned over 15 pedicabs and 21 sewing machines to beneficiaries identified by the Galway, Irish-Filipino Community (GIFC).

GIFC is an organization of Filipino and Irish community in Ireland that conducted charity events to help Yolanda victims in the Visayas.

Prior to the livelihood donation, the group also helped in repairing a day care center in Calanipawan that was also damaged by typhoon Yolanda.

Other livelihood assistance that was coursed through his office were sari-sari store, fishing nets, fiberglass fishing boats, repair of jeepneys and helping MCH operators to have franchise for their operation.

“We are helping people restore their livelihood because we believe that if they regain their livelihood we help them regain their lives,” Yaokasin explained. (PNA)
