MANILA, Aug. 25 (PNA) — Subscribers of PLDT wireless brands Smart Communications and Sun Cellular on Monday reported a 17 percent increase in its postpaid subscribers to 2.6 million for the first half of the year.
In the same period last year, Smart and Sun subscribers reached only 2.2 million.
In a statement, Smart and Sun noted this has been the fastest growth in subscriber base which remained the largest in the country.
Both wireless services providers also posted a combined 14 percent year-on-year growth in postpaid revenues, from P9.1 billion to P10.4 billion.
This accounts for 20 percent of the P57.9-billion wireless service revenues of PLDT in the first half of 2014.
On the other hand, both of its postpaid business have consistently increased its share in total cellular revenues — from 16 percent in the first half of 2012 to 18 percent in the same period last year, and now to 20 percent.
Smart postpaid head Kathy Carag said the brand saw considerable growth in revenues from value-added services (VAS).
“We expect to sustain Smart Postpaid’s strong performance as we continue to bundle traditional postpaid offerings, like voice and SMS, with access to relevant content,” Carag said.
“Aside from coming up with postpaid plans that suit our subscribers’ evolving lifestyles, Smart provides customers with the best and ‘nationwidest’ network that enables them to fully enjoy our service offerings,” she added.
Sun Postpaid head Joan Dueñas, for her part, attributed business growth to Sun’s plan bundles that allow subscribers to get a phone and a tablet for as low as P450 a month.
She also mentioned the popularity of Plan 600 which combines data access with powerful Samsung, Alcatel, and Starmobile handsets and tablets.
“We are seeing further improvement in Sun Postpaid’s performance as we make available more relevant content like music, e-books, and games, as well as top-of-the-line smartphones,” she said. (PNA)
