PAGBILAO, Quezon Aug 24 (PNA) – Two linemen died and another was wounded when a tower owned by National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) accidentally fell on the ground, causing the demise of three workers.
Around 11:00 A.M. Sunday, Roel Duruha (40 years old, married, lineman-foreman and resident of Poblacion, Barangay Boho, Tabongo, Leyte) personally reported at Pagbilao Municipal Police Station the incident that occurred in Sitio Sampalok, Barangay Ibabang Palsabangon of this town.
Duruha recounted that about 4:00 P.M. Saturday, the emergency restoration structure (ERS) tower owned NGCP accidentally fell to the ground with linemen Abel Saburao, 22, single, resident of Puerto Cagayan De Oro City), Jeffrey Rivera, 23, single, resident of Dapas, Tabango, Leyte) and Sandy Formentera, 29, single, resident of Camotes Island, Cebu).
Duruha told police ther three workers were on top of the tower, ab out 100 meters high dismantling the said tower.
Prior to the mishap, Duruha said the wire of the tower accidentally detached from the ground causing the fall.
The three linemen sustained fatal injuries. The victims were immediately brought to Jane County Hospital for medical treatment but Saburao and Rivera were pronounced Dead-On-Arrival (DOA) by the attending physician while Formentera was transferred to Quezon Memorial Center (QMC) in Lucena City for further medical treatment where he is presently confined.
