DoJ to find missing link in BW, Dacer case

Posted on April 18, 2009

PHILIPPINES NEWS SERVICE — THE Department of Justice is determined to establish the link between Best World Resources Corp. and the twin slayings of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000.

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said the DoJ will dig deeper into the case even as he vowed to gather documents that could prove the “probable motive” of people involved in the BW case and the Dacer-Corbito murders.

Gonzalez said the documents had something to do with the transfer of BW shares. He said copies of these documents may be at the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Philippine Stock Exchange, and Sandi-ganbayan.

“(To look for the documents) is the most prudent approach. One of these days, we will ask for these records,” he said.

The Justice chief said a “big scandal” is in the offing as the documents could detail the involvement of some people “who have not even been mentioned” in the case.

Gonzalez said people affected by the BW scandal may have the motive to silence Dacer, who was supposed to hand in copies of the documents to former President Fidel Ramos.

Dacer, the DoJ chief said, could have come across vital documents as he was BW’s public relations manager at the height of the controversy in 1999.

Asked why these people would kill Dacer when he was supposedly hired to handle the crisis, Gonzalez said: “He might be suspected of playing double agent. Why would he seek help from the National Bureau of Investigation then?”
