Php4-B fund for Benguet projects proposed

Posted on August 14, 2014

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, August 14 (PNA) -– Benguet Representative Ronald Cosalan proposed some Php4 billion worth of projects to be implemented in 2015.

In an interview today, August 14, Cosalan said most of these projects are proposed roads which need upgrading in anticipation of the completion of the Tarlac-Pangasisnan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx).

Around Php2.2 billion will be for the upgrading of about 72 kilometers in arterial and national roads.

Cosalan said he requested additional funding from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Cosalan proposed the funding of some Php1.5 billion for infrastructure projects in the province’s district 1 and about Php2.5 billion for the 2nd district.

Other priority projects identified by the solon include flood control and bridge construction.

Coasalan added that the upgrading of road networks in Benguet will complement the completion of the TPLEx in terms of economics which may spill out to the whole Cordillera Region.

The four-lane 88 kilometer TPLEx, in its completion in 2016, will directly benefit the province of Benguet and Baguio City, he said.

The region has been preparing for the completion of the TPLEx, anticipating the volume of vehicular traffic, Cosalan said.

The road improvements in the province will also compliment the improvements in the northern part of the region particularly in Kalinga and Apayao provinces which interconnect TPLEx, the Cordillera region and Regions 1 and 2. (PNA)
