TEHRAN, (PNA-IRNA) — Two more phases of the South pars energy zone will come to stream in early 2015, a senior energy official said.
Due to progress in phases 20 and 21 of South Pars, Deputy Oil Minister for Engineering Affairs Seyyed Emad Hosseini said Friday these will come into stream at beginning of the next Iranian year which starts March 21, 2015.
He noted progress in phases 20 and 21 is about 70 percent.
Hosseini said that massive offshore South Pars gas field’s production is expected to increase by 200 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) by March 2016.
The petroleum ministry is making efforts to boost gas production from South Pars by 200 mcm/d by the end of Iranian calendar year of 1394 which is March 20, 2016,” he also said.
South Pars covers an area of 9,700 sq. kms., 3,700 sq. kms. of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.
The remaining 6,000 sq. kms. are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
The gas field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
