COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao, July 27 (PNA) – Officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) launched on Friday a multimillion-peso highway rehabilitation project in Datu Odin Sinsuat, this province.
ARMM Regional Gov. Mujiv Hataman, Maguindanao Vice Gov. Lester Sinsuat, and Datu Odin Sinsuat Mayor Ombra Sinsuat jointly led the launching of the project in Tenorio District.
Brig. Gen. Edmundo Pangilinan, chief of the 6th Infantry Division, also graced the event and vowed to provide security to the contractors.
Vice Gov. Sinsuat thanked Hataman and other ARMM officials for providing funds for the repair of the damaged portions of the highway which connects Tenorio area to North Upi town, also in Maguindanao.
Emil Sadain, regional secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways in the ARMM, said his office bankrolled the project with a grant from the region’s 2014 infrastructure budget.
The vice governor said the project will help push eco-tourism potentials of Datu Odin Sinsuat town. He also expressed gratitude to Gov. Hataman for helping bring in Singaporean investors to put up palm oil plantations that could spur economic activity in the sleepy town.
Since it was the season for fasting among Muslim faithful, Hataman, Sadain and Sinsuat also distributed a thousand schoolbags to children of Tenorio Elementary School as a sidelight of the project launching.
Hataman said the distribution of school bags was a form of “Ramadhan gift.” This year’s fasting month is expected to end Monday when the new moon appears.
The project, Sadain said, is expected to be completed before December this year. (PNA)
