TEHERAN, July 11 (PNA/ITAR-TASS) — The Iranian authorities will resume enrichment of uranium to 20 percent if the P5+1 negotiators (five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) do not agree to confirm the country’s need for 190,000 so-called ‘separate work units’ (isotope-separation devices) at the enrichment centrifuges, Tasnim news agency said Thursday.
“If the Sextet does not accept our needs such as providing 190,000 SWUs, we would immediately resume our previous activities, the most important of which would be starting 20 percent uranium enrichment,” said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.
“Iran would continue its nuclear activities in the framework of the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency and would never ignore its nuclear rights based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),” Boroujerdi added.
He indicated that Iran had an annual need for no less than 20,000 MW of electric power from the Bushehr nuclear power plant and this amount required production of the necessary quantities of fuel in enrichment centrifuges.
Boroujerdi also said Iran would continue nuclear research of its own, and activity in that sphere would meet all the IAEA requirements.
Iran will never give up its legitimate rights in the field of commercial utilization of atomic energy, Boroujerdi said. (PNA/IRNA)
