MANILA, July 7 (PNA) — Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) attached agency, National Development Company (NDC), and the Philippine National Oil Company Renewables Corporation (PNOC RC) will partner to put up a mini-hydropower plant in Rizal, Nueva Ecija.
This is after the two agencies forged a partnership to develop, commercialize, operate, and maintain a one-megawatt mini-hydropower plant within the existing irrigation infrastructure of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA).
The Rizal Hydropower Project is situated in the Pampanga River Irrigation System Main Canal (PRISMC) weir — the downstream of Rizal Diversion Dam.
Ma. Lourdes F. Rebueno, NDC general manager, said the construction will next month.
Rebueno noted that NDC is investing some Php 45 million or sharing 50 percent of the total required capital for the Rizal hydropower project.
Aside from the Rizal Hydropower Plant, NDC and PNOC RC also identified other hydropower projects in their pipeline which will reach a total of 20-MW power.
“NDC’s investment serves as a catalyst for private investors to undertake the supply chain gap in the hydropower as the government committed a 50.5-MW from hydropower in the total medium-term commitment of 205-MW from renewable energy-based potential power generation capacities,” DTI further said.
