Find Opportunities in Crisis at 15th Kapihang Entrepinoy

Posted on February 24, 2009

Do you know that many of our global companies today like Disney and Microsoft were established by entrepreneurs during crisis times? Even the super malls of Henry Sy sprouted at the height of the country’s political and economic turmoil!

The 15th Kapihang Entrepinoy, a business forum organized by the Makati Council of Ka-Entrep Micro and Small Entrepreneurs Organization of the Philippines (Ka-Entrep) will focus on the theme Entrepreneurship: Finding Opportunities in Crisis on February 28, 2009, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at La Consolacion College, Mendiola, Manila.

The business forum hopes to counter the ill effects of the financial crunch now downing important economies in the world such as U.S., Japan, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other countries as it gradually erodes the business confidence of the country’s enterprising community. The Makati Business Club, in its January 2009 Business Opinion Survey admitted that the impact will surely be felt by large enterprises this year. While no study has been done so far on its probable effects in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), there are mixed presumptions whether the sector, which comprises 99% of the country’s total enterprises, would be hit severely or moderately.

In the roster of speakers are Dr. Eduardo Morato, President of ABS-CBN BAYAN Foundation and former dean at Asian Institute of Management who will talk on Finding Opportunities in Crisis, Philippine Star columnist Wilson Flores who will discuss about Entrepreneurship as Alternative to Employment, and Edward See, President of Rotary Club Quirino-Manila Central who will dissect the ancient Chinese wisdom of Wei Ji (Crisis = danger + opportunity) and its adaptability in the local business milieu.

The Center for Small Entrepreneurs, a non-stock, non-government organization advocating the strength of micro enterprises in the country traditionally holds the Kapihang Entrepinoy series. For the 15th Kapihang Entrepinoy, it gives way to the Makati Council of Ka-Entrep, an organization of micro entrepreneurs it formed in 2007.
