CEBU CITY, June 19 (PNA) — The Metro Pacific Investment Corp. (MPIC) of businessman Manny Pangilinan is eyeing the construction of P15-billion toll bridge linking Cebu City and Cordova.
Mayor Adelino Sitoy of Cordova, Cebu, said that if plans push through, the groundbreaking of the third bridge that will link Mactan Island and Cebu would be held in January 2015 and the bridge will be operational three years after.
Sitoy said MPIC plans to construct the bridge from Barangay Pilipog to Shell Island and impose a toll of from P50 to P100 per vehicle to recover the cost.
Sitoy said the project is viable because an average of 82,000 vehicles use the two existing bridges daily.
The number of vehicles using the bridges is increasing, he said.
Sitoy said that if the third bridge will be realized, it will be easier for motorists from Cebu City and the rest of southern Cebu to go to Cordova and the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
Earlier, Rep. Raul del Mar (Cebu City, north district) proposed the construction of an underwater tunnel from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Lapu-Lapu City to connect straight to the MCIA.
Del Mar said the tunnel will ease access to and from the country’s busiest airport outside Manila. (PNA)
