MANILA, June 11 (PNA) — President Benigno S. Aquino III will lead the nation in flag-raising ceremonies in Naga City to mark the Philippines’ 116th Independence Day on Thursday.
In a Palace press briefing, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the event will honor the Quince Martires del Bicolandia, the 15 martyrs in Bicol. These martyrs were executed by musketry in 1897.
President Aquino will deliver his speech for Independence Day celebration at the Plaza Quince Martires.
“The President will be going through different areas of the country. These areas played a role in our independence. So this year, it will be in Naga City,” he said.
Lacierda said that after the flag-raising rites, President Aquino will fly back to Manila to host the Vin d’ Honneur.
The Chief Executive will receive local and foreign ranking officials during the civic reception.
The theme for the country’s Independence Day celebrations is “Pagsunod Sa Yapak Ng Mga Dakilang Pilipino Tungo Sa Malawakan At Permanenteng Pagbabago.” (PNA)
