BACOLOD CITY, June 10 (PNA) -– Nine towns and cities in Negros Occidental will receive a total of P8.5 billion in assistance from the National Housing Authority (NHA) for the construction of 29,650 houses for typhoon Yolanda-affected residents.
Architect Susan Nonato, of the Project Implementation Team for Negros and Cebu under the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program for Yolanda victims, arrived in the province Monday and briefed several mayors of affected local government units.
Each housing unit is allocated P290,000, Nonato said.
The LGUs that will have the housing projects are Cadiz City, 8,742 units; Sagay City, 7,850; Manapla, 2,964; Escalante City, 2,018; Victorias City, 2,321; E.B. Magalona, 1,168; Silay City, 1,992; Calatrava, 1,138 and Toboso, 1,457.
Nonato said they have already conducted the validation and are working for the implementation of the project in coordination with the provincial government.
The local government units will provide land as their counterpart.
Cadiz City has already completed the plan and next would be Sagay City, she said.
The target of completion of the project is before 2016.
The towns and cities in northern Negros Occidental are the worst-hit in the province when super typhoon Yolanda devastated Eastern Visayas in November last year. (PNA)
