Baguio gets ready for CARAA, Palaro 2015

Posted on June 5, 2014

BAGUIO CITY, June 5 (PNA) -– The old Baguio Athletic Bowl will soon be rehabilitated with the installation of the tartan track.

But the budget allocation of Php60 million for the rehab which is part of the Php150 million 2014 Development Fund (DF) of Baguio City was referred back to the Council Committee on Ways and Means.

The DF is allotted to priority projects in the city which were identified by the City Development Council (CDC) composed of barangay officials and the City Planning and Development Office.

The Baguio Athletic Bowl is being readied for the hosting of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet in March 2015.

The city is also preparing for the Palarong Pambansa, Batang Pinoy to name a few national events.

The city will only have about five months to rehabilitate the Baguio Athletic Bowl once the Php60 million budget was approved.

The installation of the tartan track is the second phase of the Baguio Athletic Bowl Rehabilitation Project which was designed by the University of the Cordilleras.

The first phase of the project will be implemented through the Office of the Cong. Nicasio Aliping Jr.

In an interview, Aliping said the first phase will involve about Php14.7 million to rehabilitate the bleachers and the grandstand of the oval.

Aliping is waiting for the Department of Public Works and Highways to realign the budget from the General Appropriations Act for 2014.

Aliping said he already submitted a request for another Php20 million in 2015 for the improvement of the Baguio Athletic Bowl. (PNA)
