LEGAZPI CITY, June 4 (PNA) – Personnel of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office(CENRO) in Masbate on Tuesday set free a green sea turtle that ran ashore in Sitio Nabulwang, Barangay Marangasang, Milagros, Masbate.
CENRO Jerry Arena led his personnel and the wildlife enforcement officers of the village in putting a tag and releasing the sea creature back to its habitat.
Arena said the turtle was turned over by the Milagros Municipal Police Office headed by Senior Insp. Ariel Neri.
Gilbert C. Gonzales, DENR Bicol regional executive director, said that based on the records of the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) of the DENR-Bicol, the green sea turtle was the third of the same species that have run ashore in Milagros town.
Another turtle, a hawksbill, was also released to its habitat in Buntod Reef Marine Sanctuary in Masbate City.
During the first five months of the month, four turtles have already been released back to their natural habitat in the province of Masbate, according to Myrna Bailon, chief of the Wildlife Section of the BMB Bicol.(PNA)
