DOT-6 offers new ‘cruise and drive’ package travel tour

Posted on June 3, 2014

ILOILO CITY, June 3 (PNA) — The Department of Tourism 6 (DOT-6) is offering a new cruise and drive package travel tour connecting the three islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros Occidental as part of its “Experience Western Visayas First” tourism program.

DOT-6 director Atty. Helen Catalbas said they came up with this new package since the longtime proposed bridge connecting Iloilo and Guimaras has not yet materialized

“Now, our dream connecting these islands is no longer a dream but it is already a reality. Despite the absence of this proposed bridge, we will connect these three islands through the help of our roll on, roll off (Ro-Ro) vessels,” she said.

Catalbas said the new tour package will be launched on the third week of June where several invited guests will be experiencing the first tour that will take two nights and three days. She added that there were already two tour operators that will be selling the new package starting this month.

The director also said Iloilo where most heritage sites are located will be the jump off point in going to Guimaras via roro wherein tourists could have a chance to experience eating the sweetest mangoes and visit several tourist destinations.

In the afternoon of the same day, first-day, the RoRo will take the tourist bus from Sebaste wharf along Sibunag town going to Pulupandan wharf in Negros Occidental.

Catalbas said the tour in Negros will cover the northern, central and southern part of the province which will take two nights for the tourists to stay before going back to Iloilo.

“Our economic activity in three islands will be stronger through this new package. It will add more jobs to our people as well as attracting more foreign and local tourists to go in our region,” she ended. (PNA)
