MANILA, June 3 (PNA) — More scientists may now have the opportunity to work for the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) with previously taken positions now available, Malacanang said on Tuesday.
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. raised the issue as the government is stepping up to entice young scientists to replace those who have left.
This, according to Coloma, is part of the government effort to address the “brain drain” in the DOST.
A number of Filipino experts have earlier left the DOST to work abroad in hopes of seeking greener pastures.
The PCOO chief said that because of the market forces at work, it is only natural for the country’s talented and highly qualified scientists to leave their government posts in search of better compensation abroad.
“However, the government is still trying its best to keep their talented workers to the best of its resources,” Coloma said.
He said it might also be about time that lawmakers look into the salary and compensation for government workers, or revisit the provisions of the Salary Standardization Law to make it even at par with the private sector. (PNA)
