MANILA, March 25 (PNA) — With the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) poised to sign a peace accord on March 27, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday said that all troops in the Mindanao area will be on alert to prevent “spoilers” from disturbing the historical event.
“We cannot discount that, that’s why it is important that troops in the area remain on alert and vigilant,” AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said.
However, he clarified that the military is still to detect any threats for this event.
When asked about groups who may play the role of “spoilers,” Zagala said the “Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters” (BIFF) could be one.
“There is the BIFF (and) there are those groups (who) will stand to lose a lot because of the normalization, so we’re looking into all of that, what’s important is we must support the signing and the peace process so that it will push through,” the AFP public affairs office chief said. (PNA)
