MANILA, March 10 (PNA) — The Filipino Inventors Society (FIS) is urging the Senate to select an ‘Inventor of the Year’ annually to recognize the country’s outstanding innovators.
The organization is now working for the selection of the first Inventor of the Year by the end of the year when the Senate holds its last session for 2014, according to FIS vice president for Luzon Manuel Dono.
Dono said FIS has already identified the qualified inventors and is set to craft the criteria and timetable for the award including the cash prizes that will given out in its next board meeting.
“We would want to monitor the progress of the inventions of all inventors who would want to vie for the prestigious award given to any inventor for that matter,” Dono said during the group’s General Membership Meeting and Annual Assembly held at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Executive Lounge, DOST Compound in Taguig City last February 28, 2014.
“If [somebody] qualifies, then we have to assess and re-assess if the qualifications are really right as far as the criteria are concerned,” he emphasized.
The group would be seeking the guidance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in determining the awardee.
The FIS, considered as one of the oldest government organizations recognized in the country, is supported by DOST that holds office within the building of the Technological Application and Promotion Institute, an attached agency of the DOST in-charge of commercializing locally-made technologies.
