Ukraine’s Interior Ministry: Unrest in central Kiev claims six policemen

Posted on February 19, 2014

KIEV, Feb. 19 (PNA/ITAR-TASS) –The number of police, who died of gunshot wounds in Kiev’s unrest, has increased to six, Ukraine’s interior ministry says.

The authority reports on its site on the Internet that 159 police were injured and taken to hospitals, where 39 got gunshots and the conditions of 35 are very poor.

The total of 184 law enforcers and military have addressed for medical assistance. Opposition promises to struggle to bitter end

The protesters are adding tires to the fires from the barricades around the square. They throw into the fires benches, logs and woods.

In the direction from the Institutskaya Street, the police have taken a position near the October Palace, which is above the Independent Square and from where the view of the square is very good. From here, they correct the actions.

The police has become less active now and only rarely throw stun grenades in the direction of the protesters. The rioters have been throwing their petrol bombs more rarely, too.

The opposition’s leaders are calling on their allies to struggle to the bitter end. The rumors here are that Vitali Klitschko had a telephone conversation with Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovich. However, there is no further information on it.

Earlier, head of Batkivshchyna opposing parliamentary faction Arseniy Yatsenyuk from the podium in Independence Square called on Yanukovich for truce till morning.(PNA/ITAR-TASS)
