MANILA, Feb 18 (PNA) — A Malacanang official on Tuesday said that President Benigno S. Aquino III has no plans to extend his term further than 2016, even as the House of Representatives continues to push for Charter change.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a Palace briefing that the President himself has already clarified that he was even counting the days to the end of his term.
“It is clear to his (the President’s) conscience that he wants to finish his term on the 30th of June 2016,” Coloma said in Filipino.
The PCOO chief also said that all the President hoped for was when he leaves his office, he would say that he was able to fulfil all the promises he made to our countrymen.
As for his comment on the enthusiasm of the House to tackle provisions in Charter change, Coloma said that it was their right to push for the bills they wanted.
“They also have their own sworn duties to those who elected them,” he said.
“If they think that they are following the mandate given to them, we have full respect on the action of the Congress as a separate and equal branch of the government,” he added. (PNA)
