KABACAN, North Cotabato, Feb. 17 (PNA) –-Two students prevented what could have been a huge fire inside the state-run university here Sunday night, police said Monday.
Supt. Jordaine Maribojo, Kabacan police chief, said two unidentified men poured in gasoline in front of the office of College of Animal Science and set it on fire.
But two students who were inside the adjacent building doing their thesis noticed the fire and quickly alerted the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Kabacan campus security personnel.
He said responding security personnel and fire department arrived just in time to put out the flames.
Police recovered a bottle with gasoline and flammable substance in front of the office of college chair Jor Hamid Imlan. Maribojo said investigators are looking at possible connection between the aborted arson and the grenade blast at the USM motor pool office.
The blast last week came hours after the USM board of regents and the Commission on Higher Education announced the appointment of Dr. Gil Garcia as the new university president. (PNA)
