Animation seminar-workshops slated in Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY, Feb 15 (PNA) – International animator Marie Grace Dimaranan will speak in a back-to-back creative industry trends and management techniques seminars for Bacolod City artists, teachers and professionals starting this weekend.

Scheduled on February 15 is Storytelling and Character Development and on February 16 to 18, Production Management.

Venue for both events are at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall and at the Governor’s Hall, respectively.

Dimaranan is the managing director of Top Peg Animation and Creative Studio, a long standing supplier of international animated works like “Kampung Boy,” “Baskervilles,” “101 Dalmatians”, “Hercules” (the TV series) and “Anthony Ant” to name a few.

A Technical Education and Skills Development Authority- accredited assessor and trainer, she is also sits in the Board of the Animation Council of the Philippines.

These two seminars are the February offerings of Bacolod Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNeFIT) under Tech Talks, a regular series of events which aim to equip and strengthen the information and communications sector of the province.

Co-sponsored by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. through the Negros Occidental ICT Investments Program headed by volunteer consultant Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, these were specially crafted for artists, entrepreneurs and businessmen in meeting heads-on the growing animation industry demands in the country.

Managed by Capsi, the 1st3D Animation school in Western Visayas, the seminars were endorsed by the Department of Education.

The Philippine economy has so much to gain from investing in the creative services sector, which generated revenue of about 2 million for animation and million for game development in 2011, according to data from the Department of Trade and Industry.

In 2012, the animation sector posted three percent growth and earned US2 million. There was also a four percent growth in employment of Filipino animators that deliver high-value creative services to a number of prestigious international animation studios.(PNA)
