ILOILO CITY, Feb. 14 (PNA)–-The municipal mayor of the local government unit of Malay, Aklan has implemented the two-month suspension order meted against the village chieftain of Brgy. Yapak, Boracay Island for simple misconduct which stemmed from the violation of the solid waste management law.
Yapak village chieftain Hector Casidsid, however, rejected the two-month suspension order which took effect on February 10 until April 10, 2014.
It was learned that the two-month suspension against Casidsid was based on the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas in connection with the administrative case filed by Leo Tirol in 2012.
The Ombudsman Visayas ordered Mayor Yap of the Malay LGU to implement the suspension order against Casidsid who was found by Ombudsman guilty of the administrative case filed against him.
The administrative case filed against Casidsid stemmed from the use of the land as open dumpsite without permission from the landowner- the Tirol family which is in violation of Section 37 and 48 of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
The punong barangay queried why the suspension order against him was only implemented lately despite the fact that the Ombudsman Visayas came out with its decision on September 24, 2013 during his previous term as punong barangay of Yapak, Boracay Island.
The suspension order, he said, should have been implemented during his previous term prior his re-election as punong barangay of Yapak in October 2013 barangay polls.
Though he has yet to receive the copy of the suspension verdict, the Yapak punong barangay said he would file a motion for reconsideration before the Ombudsman Visayas regarding his case. (PNA)
