Major streets in Cebu City to be closed to traffic for Sinulog this weekend

Posted on January 16, 2014

CEBU CITY, Jan. 16 (PNA) — The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) will close to all vehicular traffic major thoroughfares in the city for the solemn procession of the Señor Sto. Niño on Saturday and the Sinulog grand parade on Sunday.

Citom operations officer Joy Tumulak the procession will start at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The city will close Osmeña Blvd., particularly in front of the Basilica del Sto. Niño, N. Bacalso Ave. and V. Rama Ave.

For the grand parade on Sunday morning, the roads that will be closed are the New Imus Road, M.J. Cuenco Ave., Gen. Maxilom Ave., Fuente Osmeña, Osmeña Blvd., P. Del Rosario St. and N. Bacalso Ave., among others.

These roads are within the 5.4-kilometer carousel route of the sinulog grand parade, one of the country’s biggest cultural event and tourist drawers.

Tumulak told the public to plan their routes if they will be going out of their houses this weekend and to consider not using their vehicles, so as not to add to the heavy traffic.

He also said the temporary terminal for southern Cebu routes the city will place in the South Road Properties (SRP) will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The terminal will have 60 public utility jeepneys issued with special permits by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

These can ferry passengers, particularly coming from southern Cebu, from the SRP to Compañia Maritima near the Cebu City Hall.

Passengers will have to pay P7 fare.

Aside from jeepneys, there will also be buses, mini-vans and vans that will be at the terminal to ferry passengers from SRP to southern Cebu. (PNA)
