Rough Luzon, Visayas seas still expected

Posted on January 10, 2014

MANILA, (PNA) — Government’s weather agency warned against sailing in waters off Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and the Visayas, expecting there rough to very rough seas with waves 3.4 m to 4.5 m high from strong to gale force winds associated with the northeast monsoon, which are likelyto affect the areas.

”Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 5 p.m. gale warning issuedThursday (Jan. 9).

PAGASA expects 52 kph to 63 kph winds in Northern Luzon’s seaboards and the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.

Such seaboards cover Calayan and Babuyan islands, Batanes province, the northern coast of Cagayan and Ilocos Norte provinces as well as Aurora province, the Camarines provinces, Catanduanes province plus the eastern coast of Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon provinces including Polillo Island).

The agency forecast in the areas partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

PAGASA likewise forecast 52 kph to 63 kph winds in Samar and Leyte provinces along the Visayas’ eastern seaboard.

Such areas will likely experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, PAGASA added.
