COTABATO CITY, (PNA) — Village officials arrested on Monday dawn two men believed to be engaged in illegal drug trade in Carmen town in North Cotabato, police said.
Senior Supt. Danilo Peralta, North Cotabato police director, identified the suspects as Akmad Simpal alias Madz and Berning Tayag, both residents of Barangay Langogan, Carmen.
Quoting report from Carmen PNP, Peralta said four village chairmen, identified as Roger Alimanan, Usop Camansa, Igko Dalid and Omar Manampan, had just ended a meeting when they noticed Simpal and Tayag on board a motorbike acting suspiciously.
This prompted one of the village officials to check why Simpal was armed and acting suspiciously. Simpal failed to show documents that would legalize his cal. 45 pistol.
A citizen arrest was carried out and when further checked, Simpal and Tayag yielded heat-sealed sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and P400 cash.
Tayag was also found to have been carrying another sachet of shabu.
Police suspect the two were on a mission to kill one of the four village chairmen.
