WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 (PNA/Kyodo) — A White House spokesman said Tuesday the U.S. government has urged China not to implement its recently established air defense identification zone over the East China Sea.
“The United States urges China not to implement the ADIZ,” Jay Carney, White House press secretary, told reporters, referring to the zone set up over an area including a group of Japan-controlled Senkaku islets that China claims.
Carney also said the United States has asked China “to refrain from taking similar actions elsewhere in the region,” apparently referring to a possible plan to establish a similar ADIZ over the South China Sea, where China is involved in territorial disputes with countries such as the Philippines.
