TOKYO, Dec. 3, (PNA/Kyodo) — U.S. Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Tokyo Monday night for talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with plans to confirm further bilateral coordination over China’s newly declared air defense zone covering a group of disputed islands.
Ways to deal with the Chinese air defense identification zone, which overlaps a similar perimeter set up by Japan over parts of the East China Sea, are expected to take center stage during the meeting between Biden and Abe on Tuesday afternoon.
Among the other issues on the agenda are a planned deepening of defense cooperation between Japan and the United States, and the ongoing multilateral negotiations for a free trade pact under the Trans-Pacific Partnership.(PNA/Kyodo)
