MANILA, Dec. 1 (PNA) –The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday announced that the number of people affected by super typhoon “Yolanda” has breached 11 million mark.
In its update, NDRRMC said that 2,376,217 families or 11,236,054 individuals were affected in 12,076 villages in 44 provinces. Of these, 47,863 families or 217,444 people are still staying in 1,070 evacuation centers.
As of Sunday morning, the death toll remained at 5,632, with 26,136 injured and 1,769 still missing.
Damage caused by Yolanda was estimated at P30.646 billion, including P15.620 billion in infrastructure and P15.026 billion in agriculture.
The NDRRMC said the number of damaged houses has reached 1,168,958 including 582,841 destroyed.
It added that total cost of government assistance for the affected families has reached at P718.734 million.
The Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD) has allocated P547 million; local government units (LGUs), P83 million; Department of Health (DOH), P32.958 million; and non-governmental organizations/other government organizations, P55.250 million.
As of Sunday, a total of 2,167,788 food packs, 286,554 liters of water, 67,673 canned goods and 244,444 of high energy biscuits were distributed in Region 8, NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said 35,121 people, 1,351 vehicles, 112 seacraft, 164 aircraft and 28,431 other assets/equipment from the national and local agencies have been deployed to strategic areas to expedite response and medical operations.(PNA)
