MANILA, Nov. 19 (PNA) — Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president and chief executive officer (CEO) Victor Jose Luciano personally received some eight tons of relief goods donated by Filipino communities and other expatriates in Doha, Qatar which arrived at Clark International Airport via Qatar Airways on Tuesday free of charge.
Luciano said the relief goods will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which will ferry them to typhoon-devastated communities in Tacloban and Ormoc cities in the Eastern Visayas region.
Rendy Isip, CIAC media relations officer, said Qatar Airways flight 930 landed at Clark International Airport at 10:40 a.m. with 197 boxes of various relief gods which include tents, medical supplies, food, blankets, and others.
The Qatar Government earlier donated some 80 tonnes of similar goods worth US$ 70,000.
Luciano, on the other hand, thanked the Filipino community and expats in Qatar for the relief goods, and Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker for transporting them for free.
“We thank Qatar Airways and the Filipino communities in Doha for their solidarity in helping our fellow Filipinos affected by the calamity in the Visayas,” Luciano said.
Last week, Emirates Airlines also ferried-in at Clark Airport 13 tons of various relief goods donated by the Filipino communities in Dubai as part of their assistance to the victims.
CIAC had already coordinated Tiger Air Philippines and Air Asia Zest for the airlift of relief goods from Pampanga province to the typhoon stricken communities of Tacloban and Ormoc cities.(PNA)
