Globe restores cell services in more towns in Leyte, Samar; fires up 28 additional cell sites in the Visayas region

MANILA, Nov. 19 (PNA) — Globe Telecom on Tuesday said that it has restored cellular services in 10 additional towns in the Visayas region located mostly in Leyte and Samar provinces which were severely affected by typhoon “Yolanda.”

In an advisory, Globe said mobile services are now available in the towns of Hindang and Tabango in Leyte; Hinabangan and Santa Margarita in Western Samar; Catubig, Laoang and Palapag in Northern Samar; Ajuy and Dingle in Iloilo; and Tibiao in Antique.

“Our network restoration progress is steadily progressing to enable our subscribers in hardest-hit areas to use our mobile services,” said Robert Tan, Globe chief technical adviser.

The telco said it also expects to restore cellular service in Borongan, Eastern Samar as well as in Biliran province within the next 24 hours as the company steadily deploys network equipment in the area. A technical team is currently activating a cell site on wheels (COW) in Borongan to augment mobile services disrupted by typhoon Yolanda.

Globe said it has essentially restored network coverage in Cebu, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Bohol, Southern Leyte, Iloilo and Antique.

The complete list of municipalities in Leyte that are now with cellular coverage are as follows: Bato, Hilongos, Hindang, Inopacan, Kananga, Matag-ob,Matalom, Palompon, Santa Fe, Tabango and the cities of Baybay, Ormoc and Tacloban.

In Southern Leyte, the municipalities with cellular service include Anahawan, Bontoc, Hinundayan, Libagon, Lilo-an, Macrohon, Malitbog, Padre Burgos,Pintuyan, San Ricardo, Saint Bernard, San Francisco, San Juan, Silago and in Tomas Oppus.

In Samar island, the areas with cellular coverage include Calbayog City, Catbalogan City as well as the towns of Gandara, Hinabangan, Jiiabong, Pagsanghan, San Sebastian, Marabut, Motiong, Paranas, Pinabacdao, San Jorge, Santa Margarita, Santa Rita, Tarangnan, Villareal and Zumarraga all in Western Samar, and in the municipalities of Bobon, Catarman, Catubig, Laoang, Mondragon, Palapag, Pambujan, and Victoria, all in Northern Samar.

In Panay, the areas with mobile services include the municipalities of Altavas, Banga, Ibajay, Kalibo, Lezo, Makato, Malay, Malinao, Numancia, Tangalan, Nabas and New Washington in Aklan, and the areas of Ivisan, Tapaz and Roxas City in Capiz.

Following the restoration of additional cell sites in Iloilo province, Globe now has mobile services in the municipalities of Ajuy, Alimodian, Anilao, Badiangan, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Barotac Viejo, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Calinog, Passi City, Concepcion, Dingle, Duenas, Dumangas, Guimbal, Igbaras, Janiuay, Lambunao, Leganes, Lemery, Leon, Maasin, Miagao, Mina, New Lucena, Oton, Pavia, Pototan, San Dionisio, San Enrique, San Joaquin, San Miguel, San Rafael, Santa Barbara, Sara, Tigbauan, Tubungan, Zarraga and Iloilo City.

In Antique, the company’s coverage now include the municipalities of Anini-y, Barbaza, Belison, Bugasong, Hamtic, Patnongon, San Jose, San Remigio, Sibalom, Tibiao and Tobias Fornier.(PNA)
