Death toll from supertyphoon ‘Yolanda’ rises to 3,633 –NDRRMC

MANILA, Nov. 16 (PNA) — The partial, official death toll from supertyphoon “Yolanda” hit the 3,633-mark as of Saturday morning, with the amount of damage reaching P9.46 billion, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The number of deaths is broken into:

  • CALABARZON: 2
  • MIMAROPA: 5
  • Bicol: 5
  • Western Visayas: 113
  • Central Visayas: 74
  • Eastern Visayas: 3,432
  • Zamboanga Peninsula: 1
  • CARAGA: 1

NDRRMC Executive Director Eduardo Del Rosario said that 12,487 persons were injured and these can be subdivided into two for CALABARZON; 21 for Bicol; 171, Western Visayas; 102, Central Visayas; 12,190, Eastern Visayas, and one for Zamboanga Peninsula.

Still missing are 1,179 individuals — 11 for Western Visayas, five for Central Visayas and 1,163 for Eastern Visayas.

The NDRRMC also said that 1,962,898 families or 9,073,804 people were affected in 9,303 villages in 44 provinces.

Of these, 405,179 families or 1,910,547 people are staying in 1,141 evacuation centers.

Damage was estimated at P9,460,240,222.13, including P9,089,181,461 in agriculture and P371,058,761.13 in infrastructure facilities.

To date, power outage is still experienced in some provinces and municipalities in Regions 4-B, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

NDRRMC said that the latest inspection report by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) showed that 566 transmission towers and poles are either leaning or toppled and seven substations remained unenergized.

It added that local government units (LGUs) in Capiz, Iloilo and the municipality of Barbaza, Antique still do not have water supply. (PNA)
