CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Nov. 11 (PNA) -– Weather officials had raised signal no. 1 in most parts of Northern and Eastern Mindanao Monday afternoon as typhoon Zoraida moves in, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Hana Salvador, of the PAG-ASA in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, said that tropical depression Zoraida is expected to landfall in Surigao del Norte on Tuesday afternoon.
She said that it was signal no. 1 for Surigao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Agusan del Norte, Bukidnon, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental as of Monday afternoon.
Salvador advised people in flood prone and landslide areas in Eastern and Northern, and Southeastern Mindanao areas to take precautionary measures since tropical depression Zoraida would be bringing in heavy rains.
“It is also no longer safe for sea travel –both big and small boats – especially fishing boats,” Salvador said.
She said that Zoraida would be peaking at a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour with rainfall at more than 5 millimeter per hour.
Some public schools in Cagayan de Oro City had already announced that there would be no classes on Tuesday.(PNA)
