BANGKOK, (PNA/Itar-Tass) — About 1,000 people on the Indonesian island of Sumatra had to leave their homes due to a new eruption of Sinabung Volcano, Indonesian media reported on Monday.
According to the national agency for the cleanup of the aftermath of natural disasters, two new eruptions were fixed last Sunday. The clouds of thick smoke and ash were erupted at an altitude of about seven kilometres.
“The police and the soldiers have already evacuated about 1,000 people from the 3-kilometre zone around the volcano. The number of evacuees will be growing in the near future,” the agency said. Neither casualties nor damaged buildings were reported.
Sinabung Volcano, 2,600 metres high, started erupting in August 2010 after about 400 years of being dormant. The previous eruption of the volcano made about 15,000 local residents leave their homes in September 2013.
