CEBU CITY, (PNA) — The Cebu City Government has reported an increase in requests for coffins after the suspension in the release of lawmekers’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
Ruben Baculi, head of the city government’s burial assistance program, said that from one request per day, his office now receives three to five requests a day.
He said that before the suspension of PDAF, some of the city’s constituents availed themselves of the coffins given by the legislators.
The city allocated for this year P10 million for the coffins and P20 million for the burial cash assistance.
Under the city’s burial assistance program, the family of the deceased will receive P10,000 and a coffin worth P8,000.
Baculi is planning to propose P30 million for burial cash assistance alone next year.
Baculi said they have scrutinized all the applications for burial assistance they have received.
He said among the requirements for those who want to avail of burial assistance are that the family of the deceased must present a death certificate and two of any of these documents – voter’s certificate, tax declaration of property in the city, utility bills or a senior citizen card.
